My kids have never heard a busy signal. They’ve never had a home phone number to memorize. We live in an age of almost ubiquitous, instantaneous access. I run back home if I realize I forgot my phone. Sometimes I receive a text from someone and then receive one an hour later asking, did you get my text? as if texting demands the same immediate response that calling does.
Even with our near constant state of connectedness, there’s a phenomenon that still occurs. We can never reach the person we need when we need them. Our phone is on us, and theirs is most certainly on them, but we fail to reach each other and then play phone tag for a week.
In warfare, constant access to communication is absolutely essential. Sometimes the first step in winning a war is to knock out the enemy’s communication systems. The best weapons are far less powerful when they can’t be coordinated well. But in spiritual warfare, God makes us a promise. For the child of God in the thick of battle, there will never, ever, ever be a moment when we can’t reach Him.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
– Ephesians 6:18 (NIV)
Count the “all’s.” Pray… on all occasions with all kinds of prayers… always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Our prayer life can be hindered by our sin and willful rebellion, but only in the sense that God often ignores our praying about lighter matters when we have bigger spiritual fish to fry – like repentance. He never turns a deaf ear, however, to His kids when we approach Him humbly and boldly.
What do you need to pray about right this very second?
