Loving God and loving others isn’t a matter of performance, as in, “You really need to love God more!” Instead, it’s the natural outflow of realizing we are the object of God’s love for us.
We love because He first loved us.
– 1 John 4:19 (NIV)
Because God made us in His image, we’re capable of thinking, feeling, and deciding to love. And the more we explore His love for us and the lengths to which He has gone to prove that love, the more capable we are of loving Him back (which is worship) and loving others (which is fellowship).
So hear this… God LOVES you! He loves you in spite of your past, more than your sin, enough to receive His own Son’s life as an atoning sacrifice for your faults and failures.
God loves you on your best days and on your worst days too. He loves you when no one else seems to love you. He loves you when you are at your most unloveable. And He wants you to experience His love, respond to His love, and reflect it to others.
The only reason we’re capable of loving is that our Creator made us to love as He has loved us.
So, trust God’s love. Trust His truth. And allow your love for God and others to flow out of this deep realization.
