Hank Williams wrote it, Johnny Cash sang it too, but Elvis made it famous. The funny thing is that David, one of the Bible’s great heroes, had written something similar long ago. Many of his much beloved psalms were about his battle with loneliness and the feelings he felt as a result. He once said, “I am worn out from sobbing. All night I flood my bed with weeping, drenching it with my tears.” (Psalm 6:6, NLT)
This weekend, we’re kicking off a whole new series of messages called Happy, Happy, Happy: Choosing Joy When the Party Is Over, and it all starts with a message about choosing joy when you feel alone. We’ll tackle questions like…
- Why do people seem lonelier than ever?
- Why are we lonely to begin with?
- How do we try to fix our loneliness in unhealthy ways?
- How can I choose joy when I can’t avoid being lonely?
As we define what friendship and fellowship look like and see what the Bible has to say about God’s constant presence in our lives.
Here are three big challenges for you as we get started…
- Think of someone you know who needs a friend and bring them to the theater on Sunday.
- Join or host a video-based Grace Group where you can get into the discussion guide with others.
- Spread the word!
Also, if you haven’t attended our Newcomers’ Lunch where I share the story, the vision and values of Grace Hills, and what membership at Grace Hills is all about, you can join us this Sunday at Dink’s BBQ in Bentonville just after noon. Lunch is on us!
See you at the theater!
